Master Gordon Carter Retail price 1/=. Mendelssohn's 1844 anthem complete on two sides, rec. Oct. (?) 1934 with the Manchester Cathedral Choir & Organ. (matrices F.917-918). The second part is available on Amphion CD "The Better Land" vol. 1.
A review in The Gramophone (Nov. 1934, p. 222) by Roger Wimbush said: "A magnificent performance. His voice is full and round, without that reed timbre which is so usual among boys." Hubert S. Ryan wrote in The Talking Machine and Wireless Trade News (London, Oct. 1934, p. 207): "Yet another choir-boy record. . . . He has a clear, high, rather piping treble voice, and his sense of pitch is exceptional; but so far as any poetic significance is concerned he might as easily be asking for the salt as for the wings of a dove."
